    Evolving small-world networks with geographical attachment preference

    We introduce a minimal extended evolving model for small-world networks which is controlled by a parameter. In this model the network growth is determined by the attachment of new nodes to already existing nodes that are geographically close. We analyze several topological properties for our model both analytically and by numerical simulations. The resulting network shows some important characteristics of real-life networks such as the small-world effect and a high clustering.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure

    Octupole degree of freedom for the critical-point candidate nucleus 152^{152}Sm in a reflection-asymmetric relativistic mean-field approach

    The potential energy surfaces of even-even 146−156^{146-156}Sm are investigated in the constrained reflection-asymmetric relativistic mean-field approach with parameter set PK1. It is shown that the critical-point candidate nucleus 152^{152}Sm marks the shape/phase transition not only from U(5) to SU(3) symmetry, but also from the octupole-deformed ground state in 150^{150}Sm to the quadrupole-deformed ground state in 154^{154}Sm. By including the octupole degree of freedom, an energy gap near the Fermi surface for single-particle levels in 152^{152}Sm with β2=0.14∼0.26\beta_2 = 0.14 \sim 0.26 is found, and the important role of the octupole deformation driving pair ν2f7/2\nu 2f_{7/2} and ν1i13/2\nu 1i_{13/2} is demonstrated.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure

    Experimental Implications for a Linear Collider of the SUSY Dark Matter Scenario

    This paper presents the detection issues for the lightest slepton \tilde{\tau}_1 at a future e^+e^- TeV collider given the dark matter constraints set on the SUSY mass spectrum by the WMAP results. It intends to illustrate the importance of an optimal detection of energetic electrons in the very forward region for an efficient rejection of the \gamma\gamma background.     Sensitivity and spatial resolution for electron-spin-resonance detection by magnetic resonance force microscopy

    The signal intensity of electron spin resonance in magnetic resonance force microscopy (MRFM) experiments employing periodic saturation of the electron spin magnetization is determined by four parameters: the rf field H1, the modulation level of the bias field Hm, the spin relaxation time tau1, and the magnetic size R([partial-derivative]H/[partial-derivative]z) of the sample. Calculations of the MRFM spectra obtained from a 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl particle have been performed for various conditions. The results are compared with experimental data and excellent agreement is found. The systematic variation of the signal intensity as a function of H1 and Hm provides a powerful tool to characterize the MRFM apparatus

    On the possibility of measuring FL(x,Q2)F_L(x,Q^2) at HERA using radiative events

    It is shown that a significant measurement of the longitudinal structure function FL(x,Q2)F_L(x,Q^2) can be performed at HERA, for Q2=2GeV2Q^2 = 2 GeV^2 and Q2=5GeV2Q^2 = 5 GeV^2 and for x around 10−410^{-4}, using radiative events with hard photon emission collinear to the incident lepton beam, under the present running conditions and with an integrated luminosity of 10 pb−1pb^{-1}.
